Step back. Take a minute. Slow your roll. Where are we? We are in San Diego and the Giants haven’t even celebrated Opening Day in San Francisco yet.
So how about all the internet trolls and “what have you done for me lately” fans give it a rest. Make your dire pronouncements in September where they belong.
That’s right—I said “shut up, sit down and let the rest of us enjoy our baseball.” You can come and stick pins after the All∗Star Break. We’ll be more receptive. Maybe.
In the meantime, whaddya say we kick back, relax and watch some baseball. And dammit, let’s do it with a smile.
You might have guessed by now the Giants lost again. Madison Bumgarner was on the mound and he spent the first two innings getting warmed up to the pitching mound at Petco. He gave up a run in each of the first two innings, but the Padres weren’t able to get another one past him. He pitched a good game–eight complete innings–and he allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out five.
Our offense was a no-show. Bumgarner couldn’t even get a hit. And then, at the last possible minute, Buster Posey came through with a little two-out base hit in the ninth. He stole second on defensive indifference and scored on Brandon Crawford‘s RBI single.
The good news is the Giants didn’t get shut-out. The bad news is…
The final score was: Giants 1, Padres 2
That’s four losses in a row. I keep saying I have to pace myself. It’s good advice. We’ve been at the bottom of the heap before. 2012 in fact. After the first 5 games we were dead last. And in October we swept up the Tigers and ate them for dinner. Don’t go counting us out yet.
Remember, we’re fans. We’re the 26th man. The Giants get their energy from us.
Let’s give it to them.
