SF Giants spring ahead

parkerI’m gonna level with you. I’m an Oscar junkie. I know some people are boycotting because they don’t want to hear the speeches…blah, blah, blah. I’m watching. I’ve never missed it, and I’m sure not going to start now.  It’s my Super Bowl Sunday and I’m in pre-game, so I’ll keep this short.

The Giants won. Again. I love it! I know the games don’t count, I know it’s not really a streak–well, technically it is à la Lou Brown from Major League: “OK, we won a game yesterday. If we win today, it’s called “two in a row”. And if we win again tomorrow, it’s called a “winning streak”… It has happened before!”

But like I said before it doesn’t count. It only counts in ratcheting up my excitement level when I listen to these kids hitting home runs and turning double plays.

Matt Moore started and pitched an inning and a third–he allowed one hit, one run, walked two and struck out three. Pretty good start. Matt Reynolds–used to be a Rockie and a DBack–finished the second inning and gave up three runs on four hits. It happens.

Conor Gillaspie, Joe Panik and Jarrett Parker all hit bombs and the kids off the bench proved they know about double plays: CJ Hinojosa at 2B to Gordon Beckham at SS to Chris Marrero at 1B. The names don’t roll off the tongue like Tinker to Evers to Chance, but who cares? They turned the double play. Twice.

The final score was: Giants 9, Reds 5

That was the Readers Digest version, but I gotta run before they roll up the Red Carpet.

The Giants play the A’s Monday at 12:05 pm–you can listen on KNBR 680. Jeff Samardzija is on the mound and I can’t wait to see him! Or hear him…
