The Giants had Snake Cacciatore for Sunday supper. I know what you’re thinking…HUH? Cacciatore means “Hunter style” in Italian. You’ve probably had it made with chicken.
Sunday’s game was all about the Hunters. Pence and even, in the end, Strickland. With a side of Denard Span, who scored the first run of the game with a home run when he led off the top of the first.
Matt Moore lit up the Snakes pretty good. He pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits and one walk. He struck out 11. Moore was the winning pitcher.
The Snakes had a one run lead going into the sixth, but the Giants fixed that pretty quick. Angel Pagan, Brandon Crawford and Hunter Pence drew walks, loading the bases. Brandon Belt singled scoring Pagan and Joe Panik’s ground out got Crawford home. In the seventh Pagan walked again and Crawford hit a single. Hunter roped a line drive to right for an RBI double, scoring both Pagan and Crawford.
Sergio Romo gave up a home run and a single in the eighth and was replaced by Will Smith, who got the second out of the inning. Smith was replaced by Hunter Strickland who got the third out. Strickland closed it out in the ninth, allowing a lead off double and then three quick outs for the save. The final score was:
Giants 5, Arizona 3
Ok, it wasn’t just the Hunter show. All the other Giants contributed in their own way. But you have to admit–this whole series and sweep have Hunter Pence written all over them. He’s playing like his hair is on fire. Sometimes it looks like it too.
Monday the Boys Are Back In Town, they face the Padres at home. It will be good to see them. Their road trip split 5-5, and when you consider the second half, that’s a damn good split.
Game time Monday is 7:15 pm on CSN-BA and KNBR 680. The Shark is patrolling the Cove. Fingers x’d that their winning formula stays with them. Sacrifice a bucket of chicken, drink some rum and smoke a cigar for Jobu, line up your troll dolls–whatever it takes to get the win. And Don’t Stop Believing.
