Bad bats? Bad bullpen? Bad Bochy? Whatever the reason, we lost. It happens. Out of 162 games, we’re going to lose a few.
The bats weren’t bad. They were their usual low-scoring selves. When the Giants score more than four runs in a game, it’s a high scoring game. The bats are the bats.
The bullpen wasn’t terrible, let’s face it-I’ve seen worse. I’ve seen better, but I’ve seen a whole lot worse. This is the bullpen we have, and we gotta live with it. For now. Bochy is planning to chat with the coaches about the bullpen in a meeting soon, according to ESPN.com.
Bochy did what Bochy always does, he moves the pitchers like Bishops on a chess board. His moves are strategic. He knows what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. It’s not ours to question. He’s the one with all the hardware to show he knows what he’s doing.
Madison Bumgarner was excellent and the defense made some great moves. Mac Williamson stole some runs from the Rockies with that great sliding catch in the third with the bases loaded, otherwise it might have looked worse.
The Giants took advantage of some mistakes and mishaps to score two runs. Angel Pagan reached on a single and scored Brandon Belt’s single in the first and in the fifth, Pagan tripled and scored on a passed ball while Belt was at the plate. In the eighth, Mac Williamson plated Brandon Crawford-who reached on an infield grounder-with a line drive single to left.
I have a theory, though, why we lost this one. It was our turn. Simple as that. Before this season ends we are going to lose at minimum 60 games-and that’s being very conservative. We’ll likely lose more. That’s ok, so far we’ve only lost 33. We expect to lose at least 30 more games and still come out on top.
So while we tear out our hair and rend our clothes in anguish, we should just step back, take a moment, and remember…we’re still Number 1.
The final score was:
Giants 3, Rockies 7
One thing that annoys me is this whole All∗Star selection process. Brandon Crawford was robbed. Plain and simple. If not the starter, he should at least be a reserve. He’s not. We can’t fix that now. We have one more chance to make Brandon Belt part of the festivities and we need to get that done. So vote. Vote early and vote often. You can vote as much as you want, I think. I voted continuously for 30 minutes and I could still vote after that. So get going! You can even Tweet or text your vote. Johnny Cueto is on the hill for the Giants Wednesday. I know he wants to make up for the fact that he didn’t have so much fun last time. Look for more fun this time. The game starts at 7:15 pm and you can catch it on CSN-BA and KNBR 680.
