I don’t know about the rest of you, but I get really nervous when I see Santiago Casilla heading toward the mound lately. I don’t know what is happening with him, but it might be time to stop handing him the ball in close games. The last few times Casilla has come into a game, he’s given up hits, home runs and the lead. What’s up with that?
To start, let’s talk about the first inning. Johnny Cueto was on the mound and he was robbed. The inning was like a calamity of errors–not technically errors–it was a Murphy’s law situation–what could go wrong absolutely did, and then some.
Chase Utley needs to at least try to avoid being hit by a pitch. It looks like he is trying to make a career of reaching on HBP. Maybe he can’t hit anymore? After looking at a strike, the next pitch was close and he stood there and let it hit him. It happened again in the fifth.
Anyway, the next guy hit a single right to Matt Duffy, but Duffy couldn’t field it and LA had two runners on.
The wild pitch call was confusing, it looked more like a passed ball to me, but what do I know? All I know is the LA batter leveled that bat right across Buster’s line of sight, causing Buster to miss the pitch and both runners to advance. The balk call was next–and total BS. It scored the first run though. All that took place during one at bat. Cueto struck the hitter out.
The next batter hit a single, scoring another run for LA. A single and a couple of groundouts later and the inning was finally over.
Our turn. Denard Span struck out. Joe Panik flied out. Duffy was up next and he took Clayton Kershaw out…OUTTAHERE! In the sixth inning Panik singled and Buster Posey doubled him home from first. Panik ran like his hair was on fire. Game tied.
The game stayed tied until the ninth when Santiago Casilla faced the first LA hitter and served up a home run to him, giving the Dodgers a one-run lead. In the bottom of the inning, Brandon Belt hit a two-out double and Gregor Blanco followed with a walk. They were left standing when Brandon Crawford struck out and the game ended. The final score was:
Giants 2, LA 3
