Would somebody please tell Atlanta that the Tomahawk Chop is best served medium rare on the bone for a very dramatic presentation? My apologies to vegans and vegetarians everywhere.
What it is not, and never should be, is a rallying cry for baseball. It’s tacky, and furthermore–it’s annoying. Make that ANNOYING.
Not only that, but at the risk of being called politically correct–with much disdain and a sneer–I’m afraid it’s a bit of an insult to the indigenous people who used tomahawks as part of every day life. Further, it’s a lot like the wave–so five minutes ago. I know, I know–the 90’s called and demanded the return of their snappy comeback. Anyway you look at it, the tomahawk chop should be retired. Make that buried.
The Giants had a rough outing for the first game of the series. Jeff Samardzija, who usually keeps his cool, got a bit ruffled and beat up. His biggest problem–he wasn’t getting the corner calls he usually gets when he paints the corners and his pitches were up. He gave up three runs in the second and two runs in the third. After that the Braves didn’t score another run.
Brandon Belt hit a solo home run in the second and hit a single in the ninth, scoring on Brandon Crawford’s single. Hunter Pence hit a single and scored when Buster Posey reached on an error. It was a really good, short-lived rally. The final score was:
Giants 3, Braves 5
The Giants honored veteran’s with their camo trimmed unis and a moment of silence in the seventh. The Giants are good about paying tribute to the veterans. As they should be.
Tuesday’s game is set for 4:10 pm with Jake Peavy pitching for the Giants. Let’s have some faith in Peavy and not make nasty remarks about some of his performances this season. We were going to lose the game against Chicago no matter what, let’s focus on the great outing he had against San Diego. Besides that, it’s Peavy’s birthday. Let’s all wish him the best of luck and a Happy Birthday.
You can find the game on CSN-BA or KNBR 680. Join other Giants fans on the game time thread on Facebook’s Kruk & Kuip page.
