I had high hopes. High Apple Pie in the Sky Hopes. I wasn’t even asking an ant to move a rubber tree plant.
Madison Bumgarner got off to a bad start. He walked the 1st Cardinal batter, got the next 2 out, but the 4th guy went yard and before the GIANTS even got to the plate, the Cardinals took the lead. At the end of 1, the score was:
GIANTS 0, Cardinals 2
The GIANTS scored a run in the 3rd–Blanco hit a double and Bumgarner tried to help the offense with his own RBI single. At the end of 3, the score was:
GIANTS 1, Cardinals 2
In the 4th, the Cardinals lead-off man got a base hit. Bumgarner struck out the next guy, but the one after that hit the ball right to the GIANTS rookie 1st baseman-who threw the ball to 2nd, hoping to start the double play, but he missed, the ball ended up in left center field, and a run scored. The Cardinals’ pitcher came to the plate and batted 2 more runners home. After 4, the score was:
GIANTS 1, Cardinals 5
The GIANTS weren’t able to take advantage of a bases loaded opportunity in the 5th and the Cardinals scored again in the 6th. The GIANTS were able to score a run in the bottom of the 6th, when Tyler Colvin was walked and scored on an error committed by the Cardinals’ right fielder. The Cardinals scored again in the 7th. Neither team scored after that. The final score was:
GIANTS 2, Cardinals 7
Adam Duvall has been sent back to AAA Fresno to make room for rehabbed 1st baseman, Brandon Belt. Hopefully, Brandon’s bat will get the offense sparked again. Something has to. In a post-game interview, Bochy acknowledged that everyone is frustrated. I agree. I’m not even in the game and I’m frustrated. But I also agree with something else the Skipper said: “enough is enough.”
And that sound you here? that’s the Dodgers bunking in with us at 1st in the NL West. I gotta go root for Colorado now.
