Sweep!

There’s an old saying: “a new broom sweeps clean.” The GIANTS must have gotten a new broom, because they swept the Twins. Clean.

Game 1 the GIANTS came back from Colorado to meet up with the Twins Friday night and got things going right away. Pagan led off in the bottom of the 1st with a double. He advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch, but was put out at home when Posey hit a grounder. This was officially scored as a fielder’s choice–instead of throwing out Posey at 1st, the Twins threw out Pagan at home (that’s your scorekeeping lesson for today). With 2 men on base, the Panda smacked a big fly and put the GIANTS on the board.
The score: GIANTS 3, Twins 0

The Twins put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 3rd. Pagan led off again in the bottom of the 3rd, this time hitting a triple. Pence reached 1st base on the Twins shortstop’s error, but Pence got credit for an RBI since Pagan scored on the play.
The score: GIANTS 4, Twins 2

Brandon Hicks got credit for the remaining runs that scored, 1 he hit and 1 he batted in. He hit a solo HR in the 4th, and Then in the 7th, Brandon Crawford hit a triple and came home on Brandon Hicks RBI single. Nice!
Lincecum was the winning pitcher, he pitched 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, 5 hits, 6 walks and 4 strike outs.
Final score: GIANTS 6, Twins 2

Game 2 was a low scoring game. Vogelsong pitched a great game, going 6.2 innings, giving up 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk and 7 strike outs! The bullpen took over and gave up another hit and the Twins only run.
Final score: GIANTS 2, Twins 1

Game 3 was the most exciting game of the series. The excitement wasn’t the result of a close game. On the contrary, the Twins scored only 1 run in the 3rd. The GIANTS scored 8 runs, 3 by Pence alone. Pence hit a solo HR in the 3rd, otherwise the runs were all “manufactured”. The GIANTS scored all those runs stringing together a bunch of hits, mostly singles. Bumgarner pitched a great game, mixing in a little bit of everything in his outing–hit batter, balk, wild pitches…and he still won! He went 7 innings, gave up 3 hits, 1 run, and NO walks. He struck out 10. It was a fun game to watch!
Final score: GIANTS 8, Twins 1

The bottom line: The GIANTS won. No, the GIANTS swept.
